MISSION STATEMENT

What is The Genesis Fund?

The mission of The Genesis Fund, a non-profit organization, is to provide funding for specialized care of New England Area children with birth defects, genetic diseases, and mental retardation; therapeutic programs located mainly in their communities for children with special needs; and support an Infoline that provides callers with up to date information regarding agents that can harm their unborn child.  Our goal is to provide our families with the help and support they need.

Who does The Genesis Fund support?

The National Birth Defects Center (NBDC) that provides diagnosis and treatment for children with birth defects, genetic diseases, and mental retardation.  Since many of the children require care from numerous specialists, appointments are coordinated by 3 coordinators, thus decreasing the necessity of frequent trips to physicians.  The NBDC also offers genetic counseling for prospective parents, and supports 11 satellite clinics through out the New England area. For more information on the services the NBDC provides call 781-466-9555.

The Pregnancy Exposure InfoLine (PEIL) is also supported by The Genesis Fund.  Trained specialists provide facts to the caller regarding environmental exposures during pregnancy that may potentially harm the fetus.  No question is too trivial.  PEIL is a free confidential service with a goal to provide the most up to date factual information to help individuals make informed, knowledge based decisions. 1-800-322-5014 The Pregnancy Exposure InfoLine

Grants are also given to medical facilities and organizations that care for children with birth defects, mental retardation, and genetic diseases. The Genesis Fund also provides funding for the Therapy and The Performing Arts (TPA) program where children and young adults with physical and intellectual disabilities have the opportunity to participate in various arts and recreational programs.  In addition to receiving therapeutic benefits from their participation, the children also gain new and rewarding experiences from which they develop self confidence and increased motor function while having fun.  The programs include music, dance, art, ice skating, horseback riding, pet therapy, bowling, windsurfing, swimming and sailing. Classes are taught by certified instructors and therapists. For more information on the programs run by Therapy and The Performing Arts call 781-487-2380.
